Air Force ROTC cadet dies during training exercise at Idaho base

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — A U.S. Air Force ROTC cadet from Oregon State University is dead after an incident occurred during training at an Idaho base, officials said.

According to The Associated Press, Mackenzie Wilson, 19, of Eagle River, Alaska, and 18 other cadets were participating in a training exercise Friday at Mountain Home Air Force Base when she was involved in a Humvee-related accident, officials said in a news release Sunday. Wilson died at the scene, the release said.

Two other cadets also suffered injuries, officials said. Crews rushed them to a Boise hospital, where they were treated and released, according to the news release.

“Today we lost a member of our Air Force family,” Col. Ernesto DiVittorio, 366th Fighter Wing commander, said in a statement. “We express our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of all the individuals. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

The investigation, led by Idaho State Police with help from the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, is ongoing, the AP reported.
