Summer 305 will take place at 112 M-DCPS school sites.
Registration to Summer 305 from May 8 to June 7 at your local school. Students who qualify for transportation during the school year will also be provided transportation for Smart Start Elementary Camps, Smart Start Teen Camps, 3rd Grade Reading Camps, ESY, Middle School Course Recovery, High School Credit Recovery and Driver’s Education.
FOR GRADES K THROUGH 12:
- Extended School Year (ESY) - Addresses special education and related services that are provided to students with disabilities in grades PK-12 beyond the regular school year in accordance with his or her Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Courses will address students’ instructional needs in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, and Mathematics, hands-on project-based learning experiences will be implemented utilizing interactive learning platforms. Families of students that qualify for this camp will be notified of eligibility by the school counselor.
- S.A.N.D. Academy – (Strategically Addressing the Needs of Dyslexia and Dyscalculia)- Students with disabilities on a standard curriculum, including those with learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia. Students will receive instruction in reading skills through hands-on interactive lessons based on the Orton-Gillingham methodology. Students will also receive instruction in Mathematics to address needs based on data. Thematic, hands-on project-based learning experiences will be implemented utilizing interactive learning platforms. Families of students that qualify for this camp will be notified of eligibility by the school counselor.
FOR PRE-K STUDENTS:
- Entering kindergarten students - Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) would like to ensure that students are kindergarten ready and eager to learn! A Transition to Kindergarten Family Summer Tool Kit has been developed to support families as they work with your entering kindergarteners and reinforce early learning skills during the summer.
- M-DCPS pre-kindergarten students have access to the Waterford online program throughout the summer. Contact your child’s pre-k teacher for details.
- Head Start Students - Children in the M-DCPS and United Way Early Head Start (EHS) program (ages two months to three years) will continue to receive educational services through the summer (June 8 – July 26) as part of the extended year. The program is designed to support the healthy development of young children and families by providing a variety of services. Families of students that qualify for this camp will be notified of eligibility by the school counselor.
FOR GRADES 1 THROUGH 5:
- Smart Start Elementary Camps - Elementary students to continue their learning and development through fun and engaging activities. Students will participate in academic programming that will work on unfinished learning for math and reading that will prepare them for the next grade level. Participating students will also be engaged in STEAM Investigations/ Challenges. Personalized, small group lessons will address the different academic needs of students.
- Tomorrow’s Leaders Smart Start Camp for 3rd Graders –The goals and objectives of this program are to improve student literacy and fluency skills, build foundational reading and math skills, increase vocabulary, and develop comprehension and math automaticity skills. Students will also gain civics knowledge, practice civics skills, and critical thinking to become engaged, informed, and responsible citizens. This program will offer a civics component rather than a STEAM component within the scheduling framework. (This camp is the third grade component of Smart Start Elementary Camps, so third grade students will automatically be routed to this camp).
- Children’s Trust Summer Camps - M-DCPS’s certified teachers will be deployed to all The Children’s Trust sponsored summer camps to provide our students with academic instruction in reading and math as well as support in ACT and SAT Prep. This partnership will expand choices for students and help mitigate the summer slide by providing both academic and enrichment activities to stimulate minds, hearts, and bodies. FOR GRADES 6 TO 12:
- Speak Up! Summer Camp - A six-day virtual writing camp for students in grades 8-12 to brainstorm activities, craft exercises, and engage in workshops established by poets and fiction writers. Campers will participate daily in master classes with best-selling authors, sponsored by the Miami Book Fair at Miami Dade College. A licensed family therapist and writer will help students explore connections between mental health and the creative writing process, utilizing creative writing prompts alongside meditation exercises. STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY WILL BE NOTIFIED BY THEIR SCHOOL.
- The University of Florida Goldberg Gator Engineering Explorers Camp - Is designed for students who are interested in exploring the field of engineering. During the two weeks of the camp, students will build computer science skills; create fun robots using Micro-bits;

FOR GRADES 10 THROUGH 12:
- Enroll in college courses - M-DCPS partners with several higher education institutions to allow eligible students to enroll in college courses and earn credits that count towards high school graduation. These credits can also be applied to a college level degree or certificate. Partners include Miami Dade College, Florida International University, and University of Florida. - Summer Youth Internship Program - The internship experience gives students a chance to gain real-world, hands-on experience and are paired with business partners in their area of interest, retail stores to tech companies, engineering firms or even hotels to get hospitality experience.
