Hurricane Dorian: Here’s how to find gas in Florida

As Hurricane Dorian churns in the Atlantic Ocean, GasBuddy, an app that provides the location and real-time fuel prices at more than 140,000 gas stations, has activated a fuel availability tracker online for stations in Florida.

When hurricane features are activated for an area, the free app notes the stations “that have no gasoline, no diesel or no power so that motorists can try other stations,” according to the company.

The app depends on crowd sourcing to report the status of stations.

How does GasBuddy work?

According to the company, “When a motorist is near a station that has no gas, diesel or power, the GasBuddy app will automatically display NO GAS or NO DIESEL or NO POWER icons next to the station on the list screen, and the station will be highlighted in red on the map screen.

At 9 a.m. ET Friday, the app showed that 50 percent of the stations in West Palm Beach area were without gas.

However, Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a press conference Friday morning that “Fuel is an issue,” but that officials are making sure gas is on its way to South Florida.
