Hi-Five

Hi-Five

A Southwestern R&B ensemble, Hi-Five found success with a sound that updated elements of the Jackson 5 and New Edition. The quintet debuted on Jive in 1990 with a self-titled album, which featured a Top Ten pop hit with "I Can't Wait Another Minute," as well as the number one hit "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)." Their 1992 LP Keep It Goin' On had another Top Ten pop hit in "She's Playing Hard to Get." Shortly after the release of 1993's Faithful, the group disbanded, but Thompson re-formed Hi-Five with new members and released The Return on his N'Depth label just over a decade later. Tragically, Thompson died on June 1, 2007, in his hometown of Waco, Texas, after huffing Freon. Three of the group's early members, as well as two new members, resumed Hi-Five and released the single "Favorite Girl" in 2012. They continued to perform and record. ~ Ron Wynn
