JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Dawaune “D.J.” Smoot may need to consider switching positions to receiver.
Smoot, 26, and his pregnant wife, Aumari Shatwan, were headed to the hospital at 4 a.m. Tuesday when she fell to her knees before making it out the door of their Jacksonville, Florida, home, WJAX-TV reported.
Shortly after, Smoot delivered their baby girl, Ahlani Moon Smoot, in their living room, while paramedics talked him through how to tie the umbilical cord over the phone, the TV station reported.
ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter recounted the story of Ahlani’s birth on Twitter, and reactions were understandably full of football references.
