It did not take Lorna Owens, founder of Footprints Foundation long to realize that she could empower women on two continents with just one event. “Women everywhere need to connect and support each other,” said Owens, which is why Owens has created Sip and Tweet, an empowering Happy Hour for women as well as to raise funds to support the work of Footprints Foundation in the D.R. Congo. “Sip and Tweet, has a very special meaning” said Owens. Most human rights groups believe the Rapes of the women and children are over the right to D.R. Congo’s minerals particularly Coltan, a mineral used in our cell phones and many other electronics.
At each Sip and Tweet event attendees will take a moment to tweet to the world about the rapes of over 2 million women and children and the high maternal and infant mortality rates in D.R. Congo. By tweeting Owens hopes that this event can bring awareness to the desperate situation in the D.R Congo.
“We are excited”, said Owens, to feature what she calls a guided networking that means ten especially selected hosts will ensure that attendees to the Sip and Tweet but who hate networking will for the first time make significant contacts. Come early and bring a whole bunch of business cards.
It would not be a Footprints Foundation event without champagne and sushi and that is exactly what attendees to the Sip and Tweet will enjoy.
