Blue Carbon and seagrass ecosystems: South Florida is surrounded by one of the largest seagrass meadows on earth. Seagrass meadows protect coastlines, provide habitats for the seafood we consume, and according to a recent study by Jim Fourqurean, could be a multi-billion dollar marketplace for mitigating global climate change. Capable of storing as much carbon as forests, seagrasses are disappearing at alarming rates. Dr. Fourqurean will discuss the Blue Carbon initiative, and its mission to extend carbon credits to preserve these important resources. Speaking Sustainably is a film and lecture series offered free to the public. Visitor Center Auditorium.
