Friday, March 8, 2013, 12 – 6pm The Annual MD/PhD Student Research Symposium will be held on Friday March 8th, 2013. The keynote speaker will be Dianna M. Milewicz, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Milewicz is the President George H.W. Bush Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine, Professor and Director, Division of Medical Genetics, Vice Chair, Department of Internal Medicine and Director, MD/PhD Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Milewicz' research looks at the human genetic diseases of the cardiovascular system; developmental biology of the extracellular matrix and inherited disorder of connective tissues. Her lab is primarily interested in disorders that disrupt the components of the elastic fiber system, in particular mutations in the genes for the fibrillin and elastin proteins (FBN1, FBN2, and ELN genes). The event will include a Keynote Talk by Dr. Milewicz, MD/PhD Student Poster Session and Scientific Talks. The Symposium is being planned and organized by the following MD/PhD students: Symposium Co-chairs, Alexandra Besser & Veronica Peschansky, Matthew Field, Lucy Freer, Holly Stradecki, Srinivasan Narayanan and Enmanuel Perez-Martinez. Its goal is to bring students and mentors together, to provide a unique forum for interaction among students and faculty, and to learn about the research of their peers.
