Richard Dawkins is one of the world's most influential living scientists and authors. Dawkins' work as an evolutionary biologist pioneered a gene-centric view of evolution, and he has become a leading advocate for reason and science. A former University of Oxford Professor of Public Understanding of Science, Dawkins now runs the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, which finances research on the psychology of belief and religion, scientific education programs and materials, and publicizes and supports secular charitable organizations. Dawkins will deliver a public lecture, "The Science of Beauty and The Beauty of Science " at 7 p.m. on Thursday March 7 at the Bank United Center, as part of Taking Flight: The Year of the Humanities and the Arts at the University of Miami. Dawkins will deliver the lecture and serve as a visiting professor at the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences, thanks to a generous gift from the Louis J. Appignani Foundation.
