Jump into spring with the Miami Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) as we host, "Introduction  to Somatic Experiencing®: Restoring the Wisdom of the Body in Eating Disorders and Addictions" Description:  Characterized by pervasive core deficits in the self-regulation of emotion, cognition and behaviors, eating disorders and addictions are, at their core, disorders of  autonomic nervous system dysregulation. When stress at a sub-cortical, mid-brain level interferes with cortical functioning and reasoning, it makes sense to  incorporate practices that take clients "beyond talk" in order to reach and  resolve subconscious and implicit patterns. The body holds both subconscious  information as well as self-regulatory resources. Participants will learn to "speak" the language of the autonomic nervous system and tailor their  interventions to support regulation and coherence.Somatic Experiencing® is a body awareness modality developed by Peter Levine, PhD to restore autonomic nervous system resiliency in persons with a history of trauma. This 3-hour workshop will provide an overview of SE principles and techniques to help clients integrate lower sensory-motor responses with higher cognitive processing to reduce symptoms and increase  resiliency.   About our presenter:  Inge Sengelmann, LCSW, SEPInge Sengelmann is a Somatic Experiencing® practitioner and licensed clinical social worker. A therapist in private practice at The Counseling Group in Miami, she specializes in working with individuals with eating disorders and pervasive emotion dysregulation resulting from overwhelming life experiences and accumulated stress.
