HonoringFlorida DNA ExonereesMen who served 259 years in prison for crimes they did not commitAnd Their FamiliesWho lost their loved ones for decadesBetty Anne WatersWhose life inspired the movie ConvictionwithPerformance by William Michael DillonDNA Exoneree and Recording ArtistThe theme for this year is Wrongful Convictions: A Family Matter. We recognize the reality that wrongful convictions impact more than just those who were sent to prison. Not surprising, it can be devastating for the family – losing their son, brother or dad to a wrongful conviction, often for decades. We will begin the evening with cocktails with the exonerees, special guests and award recipients followed by dinner and the program. Throughout the evening we will highlight the inspiring stories of the 13 Florida DNA exonerees, pay tribute to their families, and present the Frank Lee Smith Innocence Award to Ms. Betty Anne Waters, whose true story inspired the movie Conviction. You'll hear from Ms. Waters how her brother's wrongful conviction significantly altered her life. Watch the movie trailer here.We are privileged to have William Michael Dillon, Florida DNA exoneree and recording artist, with us for the evening. He will perform several original songs that were written during his wrongful imprisonment.
