Celebrating 15 years of India’s culture and heritage, the Association of Performing Arts of India will hold a Tribute Concert for Pandit Ravi Shankar at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Amaturo Theater on Saturday, March 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event features Kartik Seshadri, Alam Khan, and Hindole Majumdar, all noted performers in their own right, and lauded by the world famous sitar player, Shankar. The evening features a full concert followed by a sumptuous vegetarian dinner. Tickets are $25-$45 for the concert and $30 for dinner following the performance. His performances are noted for their "expressive beauty, rich tonal sensibility and rhythmic intricacy" (Washington Post), is a world-renowned sitar virtuoso and a composer. A child prodigy in India, he first attracted widespread attention after he began performing full-length solo recitals at the age of six. Since then he has been regarded as a musical powerhouse, performing in the world's most prestigious festivals and venues. In 2005 and 2010, Seshadri collaborated with prominent composer Philip Glass on the critically acclaimed Orion project. He was also trained in South Indian Rhythm from Pandit S.Shekhar, the great Mridangam exponent.
