Heliotropes Heliotropes hail from Brooklyn, NY. With a sound described as "doomy pop" - containing elements of shoegaze, goth and classic psych metal - Heliotropes blend influences from Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Black Sabbath and My Blood Valentine. On this lo-fi EP, the guitar riffs are murky, the drums are bludgeoning, and the shrills of the violin are haunting. But it is California native Jessica Numsuwankijkul's detached, wistful vocals - which bring to mind Richard Ashcroft meets Mazzy Star - that turn spacey dissonance into beautiful hypnotic rock. III is an EP that shows a lot of potential for a group of talented musicians and songwriters, who are sure to carve out their own space in an exciting, emerging (and hopefully lasting) trend in independent music. Dead Stars "...Dead Stars have some immediately familiar sounds even on the first listen—Pixies' loud-soft-loud trademark, Built to Spill, Pavement and Hum when they decide to unleash the wall of guitars. Anyone claiming to be a fan of those bands should get this album today..." The Veda Rays "The Veda Rays are a Brooklyn-based indie rock band whose sub-genres would include art rock, post-punk & experimental pop. Since debuting with their first full-length, Gamma Rays Galaxy Rays Veda Rays, back in September of 2010 on their own Alleged Records imprint, the band has released: a live, in-studio 5 song EP (Live From The Rabid Sessions); a 5 song remix EP (The Veda Rays/ Light Lines -- Gamma Rays Remixed); as well as 2 EP's worth of new material (Die Fast EP & Life Kills EP). They have been featured on such notable sites as Popmatters, My Old Kentucky Blog, Death and Taxes, Largehearted Boy, Consequence Of Sound, Sonicscoop.com, and The Big Takeover. Comparisons by various journalists have included bands from Deerhunter, Spaceman 3 and The Walkmen to New Order, Echo & The Bunnymen, and The Antlers, to name a few." Strangers So much to come in the next months. Stories will be told, experiences will be enjoyed, and tears will be shed...it's going to be a scene. The more involved, the better. $7.00 - $10.00
