Organization New World School of the Arts Primary Category Concerts & Performances Extras Eighteen NWSA Dance Division students have been selected by former Merce Cunningham Dance Company member Patricia Lent to learn the work of Merce Cunningham. The choreography will be presented in the form of what Cunningham referred to as an "Event" for performance in collaboration with the New World Symphony, as part of a special weekend celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Cunningham's musical collaborator, composer John Cage. The NWSA dancers are excited to be invited to collaborate with the New World Symphony, with the Cage composition Sixteen Dances, to be performed live by the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. In addition, the NWSA students will participate in a performance of Cunningham's indeterminate dance work, Field Dances, accompanied by Cage's Renga with the New World Symphony on Sunday.
