Supporting Acts: Torches, Coming Dear Boy
Dear Boy marries Shoreditch and Echo Park… A raucous twist on guitar driven UK dance and melancholy LA pop. Dear Boy was born in Los Angeles but raised in South London. The four LA boys spent the Fall / Winter of 2011-2012 living in a one room flat in Vauxhall, writing what would become their first release. Singer Ben Grey recalls, "The place was haunted, there was no heat and the landlord thought I was the only one living there. It was perfect." In their short five months in London, the band punctuated their writing with residencies in King's Cross and Hoxton Square, quickly winning a fan base without ever releasing a single song or even settling on a name. Dear Boy finished writing their record on Christmas Eve 2011. In the Spring of 2012, Dear Boy found itself back in Los Angeles to record. They decided to divide the material written in their beloved haunted flat into a five song EP and a twelve song full length to be explored/recorded next year. It was tracked by Chad Bamford (Spiritualized, Weezer), mixed by Michael Patterson (Fischerspooner, Ladytron, Trent Reznor, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), and mastered back in London by Mike Marsh (Two Door Cinema Club, Pulp, Phoenix). Winter of 2012 has seen the completion of Dear Boy's eponymous EP.
