Supporting Acts: Guest Musicians Clay Ross, Mark Marshall, Ryan Cavanaugh, The Boot Heel Drag + many more! 6th Annual John Hartford Tribute Festival
An all-star cast celebrates the life and music of legendary American songwriter/performer John Hartford (1937 - 2001). The focus of the evening's music will be John Hartford's electric output and electric interpretations of his acoustic music. Though he was always known as a legendary bluegrass musician, he recorded many albums featuring electric guitar, pedal steel, drums and other electric instruments. Tonight the music of John Hartford gets the electric treatment with an all-star lineup. Jordan Shapiro (Astrograss) leads a house band consisting of Jonah Bruno (Astrograss), Chris Q. Murphy (Whistling Wolves), Bennett Sullivan (Six Deadly Venoms), Rick Snell (Six Deadly Venoms/Only Son), Thomas Bryan Eaton and Phil Kester (Heldin/Choban Elektrik). Many special guests from the NYC roots/Americana scene will grace the stage along with the house band, making it an all star night. -- More on John Hartford: Hartford recorded more than 30 albums, ranging across a broad spectrum of styles—from the traditional country of his early RCA recordings, to the new and experimental sound of his early newgrass recordings, to the traditional folk style to which he often returned later in his life. Hartford's albums also vary widely in formality, from the stately and orderly Annual Waltz to the rougher and less cut recordings that typified many of his later albums. Hartford performed with a variety of ensembles throughout his career, and is perhaps best known for his solo performances where he would interchange the guitar, banjo, and fiddle from song to song. He also invented his own shuffle tap dance move, and clogged on an amplified piece of plywood while he played and sang.
