The Jews of Asia and Africa -A Panorama, Lecture with Dr. Tudor Parfitt & Dr. Nathan Katz 6:45 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Two of the world's leading authorities survey Jewish life and identity in sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, India, China, and Papua-New Guinea. Discover the African Jewish experience of the Lemba of Zimbabwe, the Beta Israel of Ethopia, the Ibo of Nigeria and the Abayudaya of Uganda. Asian communities include the Jews of Kochi, Mumbai and northern tribes of India; the ancient settlement at Kaifeng, China; Shanghai, haven for Holocaust refugees; and the "Judazing" movement in remote Papua New Guinea. This is the first class of a 12-week course offered by FIU, "Jews of Asia and Africa." This introductory class is free and open to the public.
