Organization Jewish Museum of Florida Primary Category Charity & Social Events Extras The 10th annual celebration of Florida Jewish History Month coincides with the 500 year anniversary of the arrival of Ponce de Leon in Florida. Founding Executive Director Marcia Jo Zerivitz will lead this conversation on the topic of "Could Jews as Conversos/Crypto Jews/New Christians have lived in St. Augustine in the 16 th century?" Speakers include Dr. Abe Lavender, editor of the Journal of Spanish, Portuguese and Italian Crypto Jews and Professor of Sociology and Sephardic Studies at FIU, who will discuss the history of Conversos in the U.S.; and members of the St. Augustine Jewish Historical Society, Rabbi Merrill Shapiro and Professor John Diviney, Coordinator of the Departments of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Flagler College.
