“Expressions of Lou-Lou,” an exhibit of paintings by Lou-Lou Davila-Hagopian, accompanied by the music of Grammy-nominated singer Thania Sanz, will take place during Art Basel week at Moonchine Asian Bistro Saturday December 8, from 7-11 PM. Lou-Lou was born and brought up in Puerto Rico. “Music and art were a big part of my life to the point that I thought everyone did it; I took it for granted”. Lou-Lou ended up going to college at SUNY Old Westbury. In New York she was able to continue her music and cultural Odyssey that her parents had started her on. ”in my family, education and culture are primary, so when I decided I wanted to paint I called my mom, and enrolled in school at the Art Student League; that was a great and amazing place. On New Year's Eve 1999 I stayed in Puerto Rico and started school in UPR's Escuela de Artes Plasticas recinto de el Viejo San Juan, another amazing incredible place. “ Loulouism-Loulouismo comes from just plain down-to-earth music and amazing musicians playing hard, not to mention her Afro-Puerto Rican roots. She can best be described as a frustrated musician who paints music. Her works were recently chosen to be exhibited at the Miami Beach Arts Gala, where one painting served as cover art for the invitation and program, at the Stage Door Theater for a Christmas fund-raiser, co-exhibited with Aleloop at MaiArt night in the Design District, and showed twice at Viernes Culturales on Calle Ocho. Grammy nominee Thania Sanz graduated from one of the most prestigious schools for jazz and composition, the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her love of performing original material with her guitar has led her to be known as one of the best live acts in Los Angeles and Miami. She has produced and recorded 4 CD’s, where you can hear her sophisticated approach, musical and lyrical, and her sensitivity in performing. Her songwriting, singing style, and musical vision can take us through beautiful journeys of passion for life, like the troubadours of the old days. Moonchine Asian Bistro is located at 7100 Biscayne Boulevard in MIMO; the exhibit and performance will be in the Garden Lounge. Moonchine specializes in innovative Thai, Sushi, and Vietnamese specialties, with entrees from $13-$20. For reservations call 305-759-3999. For information on the artists, call KCC Productions at 305-332-2623.
